Scotland is well-known for the richness and diversity of its intangible cultural heritage (ICH), sometimes known as “living culture.” This category of cultural treasure, for which UNESCO developed and adopted the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, includes the nation’s and communities’ or groups’ living traditions. Such traditions are cultural manifestations acquired by groups and communities from their forefathers and passed down to their children.
